The DPF filter (Diesel Particulate Filter - Filter Microparticle Retention) is just one that describes its name, ie a filter which keeps the microparticles produced by the burning of oil before they enter the environment.<\/p>

Technological development has allowed and these filters have an active role, since now not simply retain the particles but care for and destroy them before they seep into the environment with very negative consequences on the human body. Essentially that works much like the catalyst for gasoline, which is why from January 2011 most vehicles equipped with diesel DPF.<\/p>

It consists of a cellular body of silicon carbide, which is filled with microscopic channels plugged alternately and in cases have layer of noble metals such as rhodium, palladium and platinum. The oil exhaust treatment system reduces exhaust emissions such as hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide (CO) and oil particles.<\/p>

The soot particles accumulate in the channels of the diesel particulate filter, burn at regular intervals through a process called reformation - regeneration or cleaning. The DPF cleaning process prevents blocking of the DPF. Excess soot in filter can cause a reduction in engine performance and filter break at renewal - regeneration or cleaning.<\/p>

We must not forget that given its usefulness, this filter is most often quite expensive when it needs to be replaced. The replacement period is not of course the same for all models that have DPF and you should consult the respective manufacturer of both this and the replacement cost, which can be particularly high.<\/p>

The longevity of the filter is mainly ensured through proper maintenance of the engine, good quality fuel and proper lubricant selection.<\/p>

The right choice of lubricant is also crucial for the performance and for the long life of the engine and must meet the necessary requirements for diesel engines fitted with this filter.
